About the Guides
A good guide book should fulfil three functions:
- Make you want to visit the places it describes
- Interpret the lie of the land when you get there
- Provide a lasting souvenir of your journeys
Immediately recognisable by their colourful ‘canal art’ inspired covers, Pearson’s Canal Companions have been providing satisfaction on all three counts - and more besides - for over forty years.
Designed to appeal to boaters, canoeists, paddle-boarders, walkers, cyclists - and those who simply want to learn more about canals and where they go - this independently produced series of guide books prides itself on being as accurate and up to date as possible, with a light seasoning of entertainment thrown in for good measure.
Each of the titles in the series covers approximately two hundred miles of inland waterways - overlapping occasionally for the benefit of users - and between them they describe the bulk of the network from the Kennet & Avon in the south to the Leeds & Liverpool in the north; though one or two gaps have appeared of late pending new editions: notably the Upper Thames, Erewash Canal, Upper Trent and South Pennine Ring. We’re on it!
